Is Nilotica Shea Butter crude or refined?
Neither.
While most commercially available shea butter is refined, Nilotica Shea butter is not.
Nilotica shea butter is a totally unique product because of the chemical-free processing methods used in its production. Most refined shea butter is solvent extracted, usually with the chemical Hexane, and often subjected to harsh bleaching agents, yet this solvent extracted shea butter can be misleadingly labeled 100% pure. Refined shea butter is easily recognizable because it is very white, greasy, and odor free. If in doubt, ask your supplier.
Crude shea butter refers to traditionally processed West African shea butter. Crude shea butter can vary greatly in appearance and quality, but it is often quite hard with a strong, earthy smell.
Nilotica Shea butter is a superior product compared to both refined shea butter and most crude West African shea butters.
Nilotica Shea Butter has only recently been available outside of Uganda.
Try it and see the difference for yourself!
I've noticed a slight difference between different jars of your shea butter, why is it that sometimes shea butter is smooth and sometimes it feels slightly grainy?
We try to always produce the smoothest shea butter possible because most people prefer the way it looks and feels. However, shea butter is a natural product and, like cocoa butter, its texture and color will vary from batch to batch, tree to tree. Weather conditions and temperature can also change the consistency from soft to hard. Color may also range from ivory to yellow and the surface texture of product may also look different from batch to batch. These variations are totally normal and will not effect use. If the texture is somewhat grainy, simply melt the shea butter in the palms of your hands and the grains will melt immediately and absorb just like the ultra smooth shea butter. If you still are unsatisfied with the product due to its texture, Nilotica Botanicals will replace your shea butter or refund your purchase.
Will I break out if I use shea butter on my face? How about scented shea butter?
Unscented Nilotica Shea Butter can both be used to moisturize the face. Keep in mind that only a small amount is necessary to be effective and application should be concentrated on problem areas, where dryness and lines are most prominent. People sensitive to oil-based moisturizers, or prone to breakouts should use shea butter on the face sparingly until tolerance is tested. Chemical peels and dermabrasion.
I've used Nilotica Shea Butter throughout my pregnancy, can I use it on my baby?
In Africa, babies are anointed with shea butter immediately after birth and throughout their infancy. Shea butter is a mild, natural product and is safe to use on your baby. Many people claim it works great on diaper rash and cradle cap. Shea butter also helps to promote post-labor healing. Many new mothers use it to heal cracked, sore nipples, hemroids, and other sore areas.
I took my shea butter to the beach and it melted, is it ruined?
No, shea butter may melt and even change texture, but it will still be perfectly fine to use. You can put your shea butter in the refrigerator for 20-30 minutes and it will reset nicely.
Does shea butter contain any preservatives?
Nilotica Shea Butter contains no preservatives. A one per cent anti-oxidant solution of vitamins C and E is added to prolong shelf life. Your jar of shea butter should stay fresh for at least one year. Keep your fingers clean when using your shea butter to keep it fresh and bacteria free.
